Laser cutting prices

What laser cutting costs in Sydney

Most laser cutting companies will not show you a price until you have sent a drawing and waited. We built an instant quote that prices a DXF in seconds, and this page shows what it produces for three typical parts, so you can see what moves the price before you upload yours.

    What is in the price

Material, nested on the sheet with the gap the thickness needs, charged as the strip of sheet your parts use, with a quarter sheet minimum
Cutting time, from the real cut length, the number of pierces and the cutting speed for the material and thickness
Deburring of every cut edge, included
Setup and sheet loading, charged once per job, which is why unit prices fall quickly with quantity
Standard lead time of 2 to 3 weeks from payment, or 1 week with express at 30 percent extra
Nothing else: no hidden handling fees, and GST is added at checkout

    What moves the price

Thickness moves it most. The laser cuts 1 mm mild steel many times faster than 12 mm, so the same outline costs far more in plate than in sheet. Stainless and aluminium cut with nitrogen rather than oxygen above thin gauges, which costs more per hour, and the material itself costs more per square metre.

Holes and small features add pierces, and every pierce takes longer than the cut around it. A plate with forty small holes costs more than the same plate with four, even though the cut length barely changes. Holes smaller than the material thickness cannot be laser cut cleanly and go to drilling.

Quantity spreads the setup. Setting up the job and loading the sheet costs the same for one part as for fifty, so the unit price of a bracket at fifty off is a fraction of the unit price at one off. The tables below show it.

Material grade and finish matter: 316 costs more than 304, a brushed number four finish more than 2B, and 5083 aluminium more than 5005. Tell the quote the grade you actually need rather than the dearest one.
